Ficher & Foutre Expressions in French
Ficher & Foutre: French slang expressions
Ficher & foutre expressions are very commonly used in everyday French. This video will teach you how to speak like the French in an informal context.
Transcript of the lesson
SALUT ! Ok, so I’ve been teaching you a lot of slang and bad words lately. Time to stop ? Hell, no ! In this video, I will occasionally give you the option to speak more « properly », but we’ll be focusing on the use of two familiar verbs: FICHER and FOUTRE.
FRENCH SLANG “FICHER, FOUTRE” AND PROPER FRENCH
Let’s start with a very common question : QU’EST-CE QUE TU FAIS ? Or if using VOUS: QU’EST-CE QUE VOUS FAITES ? Well, there are actually more familiar ways to ask this same question, with a small negative connotation : QU’EST-CE QUE TU FICHES ? Or QU’EST-CE QUE VOUS FICHEZ ?
If we continue to slip all the way into familiarity with a negative twist, we’ll have: QU’-EST-CE QUE TU FOUS ? Or QU’EST-CE QUE VOUS FOUTEZ ? In a familiar context, you’ll sound very French if you use FICHER and FOUTRE, so let’s keep exploring them.
If you’d like to talk about some lazy ass, you can say, properly: IL NE FAIT JAMAIS RIEN Or, more informally : IL NE FICHE JAMAIS RIEN. Or, here’s your politically incorrect option : IL NE FOUT JAMAIS RIEN
What if we left the lazy ass alone for now : ON LUI FICHE LA PAIX ? or ON LUI FOUT LA PAIX ? And in a more proper way : ON LE LAISSE TRANQUILLE ?
But now I have another idea ! SI ON SE FICHAIT DE SA TÊTE ? Bad I know. Or even worsely put: SI ON SE FOUTAIT DE SA GUEULE
SE FICHER/SE FOUTRE DE QUELQU’UN = to make fun of someone / SE FICHER/SE FOUTRE DE LA GUEULE DE QUELQU’UN = to make fun of someone’s face
Equivalent expressions with “se moquer”
If you’ve seen my previous video on GUEULE, this expression should ring a bell. And for the more politically correct among you – I’m sure you’re out there – use : SE MOQUER DE QUELQU’UN Or SE PAYER DE LA TÊTE DE QUELQU’UN. ATTENTION ! NE VOUS MOQUEZ PAS DE MOI / NE VOUS PAYEZ PAS MA TÊTE, S’IL VOUS PLAÎT. Go back to the lazy ass, instead.
Now, let’s move on and be mischievous little shits. Let’s have a look at a few interesting expressions with FICHER or FOUTRE, which can create chaos in the playground… I mean, in life basically. I’m also gonna give you a more proper wording each time.
