FRENCH SWEAR WORD “CON”

Learn how to use a common French swear word: CON

SALUT!

You guys seem to particularly like it when I teach you swear words and other edgy stuff like that, so today, I thought I’d teach you a very common, very familiar word, the word “CON” or CONNE in its feminine form.

UN CON or UNE CONNE is often used as an insult and it means “bastard” or “stupid idiot”. We use it when someone has done or said something stupid. Let’s look at a couple of examples:

T’ES VRAIMENT CON TOI, POURQUOI TU LUI PARLES COMME À DE LA MERDE?

ELLE NE COMPREND RIEN, ELLE EST CONNE COMME LA LUNE.

That’s another cute little expression “CON COMME LA LUNE”, as stupid as the moon. That’s a scoop: apparently the moon is stupid. We also say CON COMME UN BALAI, as stupid as a broom, that’s another cute little expression to know.

Then if you wanna be that much more vulgar and aggressive, you can say SALE CON, which basically means “bastard” Or you can use the words CONNARD or CONNASSE, to insult someone. In France there’s actually a very successful TV program called “CONNASSE” that you may find extracts of on youtube. Basically UNE CONNASSE, kind of a bitch I guess, goes around with a hidden camera and behaves in a very obnoxious way with some random people. She’s so horrible, the audience loves it… Go figure!

There are more derivatives to the word CON. For example, to do something stupid can be translated familiarly with FAIRE UNE CONNERIE.

Or if someone keep telling stupid stuff, you can tell that person: ARRÊTE DE RACONTER DES CONNERIES. Those expressions are familiarly, but they’re not insults. You can totally used them when you’re hanging out with friends of family.

In fact, sometimes you can use the word CON without being really an insult as such. If a friend of yours is being silly you can just tell him: T’ES CON! And join in the laughter.

There’s so many ways of using that word, damn, I hadn’t realized it until I started to prepare that video. So you also have the expression “À LA CON” which you will use to refer to something stupid again:

C’EST QUOI CE JEU À LA CON? – What’s that stupid game?

J’AI PAS L’AIR UN PEU CON LÀ À VOUS PARLER DU MOT “CON”? NON?

BON, ALLEZ, J’ARRÊTE CETTE LEÇON DE FRANÇAIS À LA CON TOUT DE SUITE!
