VACATIONING IN FRENCH

Learn French Holiday Vocabulary

COUCOU !

It’s summer time. Yeah ! I love the sun, the heat and of course, the holidays !!!

VIVE LES VACANCES ! IL EST TEMPS DE PRENDRE LE LARGE, DE FAIRE UN BREAK !

Or maybe you’ve just got back from your holidays. It doesn’t matter, today we’re learning vocabulary related to LES VACANCES. We’re staying in that nice relaxing zone, learning all the vocabulary you need. And I’ll also share with you 3 of my favorite French spots. Vocabulary first.

FRENCH VOCABULARY RELATED TO THE HOLIDAYS

PRENDRE DES CONGÉS = to take days off

PARTIR EN VACANCES = to go on holidays

PASSER DE BONNES VACANCES = to spend nice holidays

PASSER DU BON TEMPS = to have a good time

LE FARNIENTE = time doing nothing

VOYAGER = to travel

VISITER UN PAYS = to visit a country

Familiar expressions now :

PRENDRE LE LARGE = to go away

SE FAIRE LA MALLE = to get away

SE LA COULER DOUCE = to do nothing

SE CASSER QUELQUE PART = to go away somewhere.

SCENE WITH HOLIDAY VOCABULARY

Fille 1 : J’en peux plus du boulot. J’ai besoin d’un break. Trop envie de me casser quelque part.

Fille 2 : Ben, casse-toi, qu’est-ce que tu attends.

Fille 1 : Mais faut que je finisse ce projet…

Fille 2 : Laisse tomber, tu satures trop là. T’as besoin de prendre le large. T’as pas vu ta tête !

Fille 1 : Ah, dis comme ça… Oui, je vais voyager. Je vais partir à l’étranger, tiens. A moi le farniente ! Je vais passer du bon temps au soleil !

Let’s learn more vocabulary specifically related to summer time.

LE SOLEIL = the sun

LA MER = the beach

L’OCÉAN = the ocean

BRONZER = to sun tan

PRENDRE UN COUP DE SOLEIL = to get sun burnt

ALLER À LA PLAGE = to go to the beach

ALLER À LA CAMPAGNE = to go to the countryside

ALLER À LA MONTAGNE = to go to the mountain

PROFITER DE LA MER = to enjoy the sea

SCENE WITH SUMMER HOLIDAY VOCABULARY

So : Oh là là. J’ai trop envie de profiter de la mer, bronzer et même de prendre un coup de soleil.

Fille 2 : Non, mais t’es malade aussi. Moi avec le réchauffement climatique et la fragilité de ma peau, je ne m’expose jamais au soleil.

So : Ben, c’est con. Tu profites pas de l’été du coup. Les vacances, c’est SSS, obligé : « sea, sex and sun ».

Fille : Oui, c’est SSS. Mais pour moi c’est sex, sex and sex.

So : Ah mais t’as complètement raison ! C’est carrément mieux pour la peau !

MY TOP 3 DESTINATIONS IN FRANCE

Let’s finish this lesson with 3 French destinations I particulary like in France. I actually used to work as a tour guide, a long time ago, so I was lucky enough to travel all over France. And here are 3 of my favorite destinations. I’ve tried to select very different places so that you can have a choice, depending on what you like to discover.

Numéro 1. LE MONT SAINT MICHEL, en NORMANDIE – a monastery perched on an island

Numéro 2. MONTMARTRE à PARIS – the touristic, bohemian hill of Montmartre, with the Moulin Rouge

Numéro 3. AIGUES MORTES en CAMARGUE – a fortified city buzzing in summer, on the Mediterranean coast.

Obviously, there are many more places I love and that I’d highly recommend, but these are pretty great ones to me.

That’s all I’ve got for now. A PLUS, ET PROFITEZ BIEN DE VOS VACANCES, BIEN SÛR.
